Spelling to Communicate

Spelling to Communicate (S2CTM) empowers non speakers to overcome communication barriers posed by traditional oral communication by pointing to letters on a board as an alternative means of communication.

This innovative method promotes synchrony between cognitive and motor systems. Through repeated practise, new neural pathways become myelinated.

By teaching motor skills necessary to point on a letterboard positioned in front of them, non speakers improve motor planning and control, enabling them to communicate their thoughts and ideas quickly and accurately.

We have access to two I-ASC Certified S2C Practitioners, both highly skilled specialists who have been rigorously trained to teach purposeful motor skills to non speaking individuals. Their guidance and support help non speakers develop the skills to spell words and communicate more effectively.

I decided to become an S2C Practitioner when my very good friend and now fellow Practitioner Joanne Watson's son Tom (a non-reliable speaker) spelled out his thoughts to EV in London in 2023. He now has a passion is to help other spellers.
This gave me my “Why do this?” moment.

My own son George (31) also non-reliably speaking is following in Tom’s footsteps.
